Fav Makeup Tutorials on Youtube

Ok, so I don't know if y'all are gonna think this is a weird thing or not, but here goes

There I said it. It's out in the open!

I grew up with a mother who does not NEVER EVER wear make-up (I think she may have worn a little at her wedding, but I would say that was probably the last time!). So she was no help in the "how to apply make-up" department. I think she actually knew less about it than I did when I was a teenager, if that was at all possible!

So when I went to visit my Grandma, I was always fascinated with her make-up. She always wore a powder foundation and red lipstick. She NEVER left the house without being made up and dressed up. I loved the smell of her foundation, and I loved watching her apply her lipstick. There was always something so magical about the transformation.

I think, had I realised I could do anything I wanted in my teens, I totally would've chosen to be a make-up artist. I think what they do is so creative, so beautiful.

I've never been one of those girls that just had a "knack" for knowing how to apply make-up correctly, or knowing the "right" clothes to wear. Actually, let me say, I always knew what was in fashion, I just didn't know how to wear it! Way back in the "olden days" (according to my gorgeous girl), when I was a teen...there was no Internet let alone YouTube. There was no where I could learn these skills from except my equally clueless friends who were more interested in ditching school and sneaking a fag when the teachers weren't looking.

I do remember a friend and I spending an afternoon once ringing deportment agencies to find out the cost of attending, but then knowing our parents would say no.

It's taken me years to understand that less is more, and the difference a good foundation and a bad one. I've walked around in broad daylight with make-up that visibly ended at my jaw line, and I've sometimes worn the colours that were totally NOT my "colour". I've had lipstick on my teeth and mascara than ran down my face at about lunchtime every day, and yet, I still loved make-up!

Until 2 years ago, I thought contouring was for sketches.

Then one night while I was flicking through YouTube videos, I happened upon some tutorials and instantly became hooked.

I can't even believe how much I didn't know about make-up before. Up until now, I've just watched and wondered if I could do my own make-up so well.

Today I'm here to invite you to join me in an experiment....I'm calling it the....
On the first Sunday of every month I'm going to watch a tutorial and try to duplicate the look on my own face. I'll post the results for you to see and the tutorial I used.

Then if you feel like it might be fun, watch the tutorial, re-create the look yourself and link up your post here on Domestic Mamma. What do ya think? Does it sound fun? Who wants to join in?

So right now, I'm looking for girls who want to co-host with me. The first part of this series will start Sunday 3rd February. If you're interested shoot me an email at sashli@aussieb.com.au with the subject line "Make Me Pretty". I'm so excited about this and I really hope you girls out there who love make-up will join in.

  2. I'm not naturally gifted with a make-up brush. I would love to improve my make-up application technique, but I don't have the patience to watch a bunch of videos. Thanks for taking your time to do it, I can't wait to see the results!

  4. Kim - I'm really excited about doing this, even thought I HATE photos of myself. Stepping outside my comfort zone!

Cheryl - The videos usually only take about 5 mins, and I'll only be posting one each month so it's not too much for everyone to do. You are welcome to stop by and just look at the photos of me trying to do it!

Cassie - YAY, I predict we'll be pros by the end of the year! lol
