Let's start this post with a story....
Let's go back to my childhood for a moment....(might take a few minutes cos I'm gettin so darn old)...The phone in the kitchen rings one day and my little brother (in his skin tight jeans with a comb in the back pocket - he thought he was the Fonze) answers it. When he gets off the phone, he has a smile from ear to ear.
"WE JUST WON A HOLIDAY TO DISNEY LAND" he shouts and runs around the room so excited. (he was about 11/12 then?? I think. He'll correct me later before he kills me for telling you all this!)
For the next few weeks - as kids do - we told EVERYONE who would listen that we'd won a holiday to Disney World. We were so excited. Then weeks turned into months, months into years...you get the picture. At some point I guess we realised that we WERE NOT going to Disney World. To this day we still ask my brother, "Where's our holiday to Disney World man?"
WHAT HAPPENED ?
It was a prank, probably some teens who had nothin' better to do with their time. I like to think that my clueless baby brother hung up the phone before the radio station could get our address and they just couldn't find us to give us our prize....maybe they still have our tickets on a pin board somewhere...waiting for us....there's nothing wrong with being a dreamer! (I'm pretty sure Walt would agree with me there!)
Anyhoo.......................I'm still waiting for my holiday people! I was ripped off!
I was over at Fat Mum Slim the other day reading her list of things you should put on your resolution list for 2013. One of the things she mentioned was to plan a holiday.
Well enough said girlfriend, you don't have to tell me twice!

I pulled out all the dvd's of Disney Holiday planning we have sent for over the years....(don't judge me, it's an illness)
We watched them all for about the millionth time (totally for motivational purposes....dah!)...and then started to plan our very first trip out of Australia in 2014.
That is so exciting for us you just would not even believe!
Monkey and I were laying on my bed last night, every few minutes one of us would just say "Disneyland" in a dreamy voice and then we would crack up laughing and then start clapping like penguins....(I don't know why...we just did okay)
It does mean we are gonna have to save like crazy people, but it will be so totally worth it.
I'm so excited y'all (see I'm already practising my american accent...hehe!) , I am a little anxious I guess because it's such a HUGE thing for us, worried when I get there that you Americans won't understand what the hay I am talking about with my Aussie words, terrified that I'll get lost, and excited to see places I've only explored on Google Earth or YouTube...
*Side note* - Did you know that you can explore Seaworld Orlando on Google Earth??
If any of you have tips or websites you think I should check out I would love to hear about....but for now....just had to tell someone!

Oh that story about you and your brother! You poor things, what a terrible thing to do to kids!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your trip is going to be so much fun, I can't wait to go back soon and check out the extended Magic Kingdom. My only tip is not to wear a white dress on splash mountain (like I did). Not appropriate for disney world!
How exciting!!! What a great thing to work towards. Fun! x
ReplyDeleteI am totally addicted to looking through all the planning materials too it's ok. I have a write up of all the places we ate at during our honeymoon this May if you want it plus I'd be more than happy to talk WDW in general!

Thanks everyone, thanks for that little advice on the white dress Patty, def not gonna make that mistake.
ReplyDeleteThanks Betsy, will pop by your blog and take a look, good to know I'm not the only one who "collects" all the planning materials for Disney!
What a story! but how exciting for you!
ReplyDeleteI got to go to Disneyland after dreaming about it forever in 2011 and it was so much fun. Everyone is super freindly and I really enjoyed the US.
My advice is to take a near empty suitcase though, Shopping is amazing and so cheap!!!
Oh yes def, thanks for that advice, my girl and I were talking about that last night, and she said the same thing, "let's take empty suitcases for shopping mum"...she's such a girl!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Disney World! I'm from Florida, so we went there a lot. I would be more excited to visit Australia, though ;) Orlando is used to travelers from all over the world, so you will be just fine!
